The International Drama/Theatre and Education  Association

The History of IDEA webinars – another contribution

Throughout 2022 IDEA has been celebrating the 30 year anniversary of the founding of IDEA. There has been a series of Webinars on the History of IDEA through different perspectives

As with all these presentations, this one was live streamed and is available on the IDEA Facebook page

In a conversation with Aishwariyah Shanmuganathan for SDEA Singaporean Drama Education Association, moderated by Liliana Galvan, IDEA Vice President, we considered impressions from my 30 year history with IDEA. As my contribution to the IDEA Anniversary I have been working on a personal memoir IDEA Remembered. This is not a history or IDEA (someone else must write that) but a sharing of my memories, images and reflections. It will be published on www.stagepage.com.au when finished but for now you can read my report from IDEA2022 in Reykjavik, Iceland below.

As we agreed in this conversation, the past is about looking to the future – or as Liliana put it in her country when we are looking back, the future is always behind us and we are walking into it.

Thank you Aisha and Liliana and all who joined the conversation (not forgetting IDEA Administrator, Boris, who managed the technology).

The other delight of the webinar was the contribution of our regular documenter Adriana who quietly records and interprets IDEA events visually. Thank you for sharing Adriana.

IDEA Day 2022

IDEA 2022 Congress UPDATE

IDEA gathered for a Congress in Reykjavik, Iceland, July 4-8. after a hiatus caused by Pandemic and troubled times, it was a great pleasure to be with friends in person and face-to-face.

This is a link to my report from Drama4All.

I set out to capture experiences of the Congress through images, video clips and words. It is published as an ePub so that we can use technology to share some of the moments of the Congress particularly for people who could not travel to Iceland because of the COVID-19 Pandemic and other circumstances.

How do you access this Report?

StagePage has published this Report on Apple Books.

Here is the link to the Apple Books - https://books.apple.com/au/book/idea2022/id6443526061

You will be able to download to your computer and view on screen (fingers crossed the technology works for everyone)

Part of a larger project for IDEA30

This report is a chapter from a larger project I am undertaking to celebrate 30 years of IDEA. IDEA Remembered is a personal memoir (Link here for opening pages of that project).

This chapter is shared free of charge as a service to the drama education community and IDEA.

When IDEA Remembered is finalised in the next few months, it will be available to purchase by donation with proceeds to IDEA.

IDEA The International Drama/Theatre and Education  Association has been a significant part of my life since 1992.

After the hiatus of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are finally emerging from our sheltered places and returning to  face-to-face gatherings. July 4-8 2022 sees us – some of us who can travel – in Reykjavik Iceland for IDEA2022 Congress.

It is exciting to once again be able to meet together physically after years of meeting via ZOOM.

I am excited that I am able to attend. and also that, for the first time, Liz Pascoe can also accompany me. Our children, Phillip, Ben and Hannah have all been to IDEA events in the past but this will be a first for Liz (who has always stayed home keeping the ship steady)

As we meet, I am deeply aware of those who cannot be physically in Reykjavik. The cost of travel along with restrictions still in place, prevent many from joining us. I miss them.

But there is also joy in catching up with old familiars – and meeting new.

Recognising that some people cannot be physically present in the Congress, I am sharing through this webpage my presentation and paper.

You can download the paper here.

And the accompanying slides are presented below.

Please enjoy.
